To coincide with The Lab Film Festival and East London Film Festival, The White Building presents an all night forum, exploring film as a short form. These four specially curated programmes stretch from the outer reaches of space to the most intimate indoors, exploring cinema’s potential to ‘locate’ its subjects within the parameters of its material frame.

Programme 1, 7.30pm

The Films of Charles and Ray Eames / Curated by Jamie George

Charles and Ray Eames worked in and made major contributions to modern architecture, industrial design, graphics and film. Their film work was a vehicle for experimentation and education producing short films in order to document their interests, such as collecting toys and cultural artifacts on their travels. The films also record the process of hanging their exhibits or producing classic furniture designs.

Programme 2, 9 pm

Outdoor Cinema / Curated by Una Knox

Programme 3, 10pm

Looping Systems / Curated by Renee Carmichael

Includes selections of work from Stan Brackhage to Hatice Guleryuz.

Programme 4, 11pm

Space Cinema / Curated by Tobias Revell

To where no man has boldly been before (again.) For the first time in decades we’re looking outside our own atmosphere as a solution and as an escape; not to explore but to colonise. Man intends to spread beyond the stars and it now seems to be a real and unstoppable inevitability. But what does it mean? How can we read the solar system, the galaxy, the universe when we haven’t figured out Earth or ourselves? These short films present potential futures, alternate histories, strange readings, weak signals and abstract asides on our relationship with space.
